Roll Away The Boulder

©2016 Lynn Davison

Everyone has some burden to bear

Grace under fire can you do it

You limp along with that boulder in your arms

Thinkin’ no one else has ever struggled through it

But it’s alright, all alright

When every molehill is a mountain

Just keep on pushin’ on

Everyone has some tragic detail

Playin’ out in corners of the mind

Story’s old, that prison feels so cold

When you walk outside see what you can find

Yeah it’s alright, all alright

When every molehill is a mountain

Gotta keep on pushin’ on

Everyone has some tale to tell

Can you walk a while in someone else’s shoes

Oh don’t forget, your life’s not over yet

Maybe someday you won’t have to sing the blues

Well it’s alright, all alright

Until you roll away the boulder

Just keep on pushin’ on

Roll away the boulder

Or keep on pushin’ on

Out on the rocks I saw you walking very slowly

With your head down looking at the ground

I pointed up but you were busy just surviving

As the life tumbled you around

And like an avalanche the sky is falling

You never seemed to care

But now you’ve got your armor and your shield

You even changed your hair

If you’re looking for a sign then this is it

Yeah, everything will work out fine and it all fits

If you’re looking for the future here it is

Everything will work out fine or be blown to bits

Yeah, everything will work out fine

No matter what they say

The tide is turning

And waves crash into the rocks

But I’ll never stop following the magic

That lives outside this box

If you’re looking for a sign then this is it

Yeah, everything will work out fine and it all fits

If you’re looking for the future here it is

Everything will work out fine or be blown to bits

Yeah, everything will work out fine and it all fits

Fourth Turning

©2016 Lynn Davison

Times are temperamental

Last night, feeling sentimental

It’s a wonderful life, a wonderful life

Woke up bruised and battered

Off the red pill, reality is shattered

On the yellow brick road

Yeah, the yellow brick road

Follow the money, where tensions rise

‘Cause what I believe can deceive my eyes

Mama Earth, can’t forget her

Green is good, smart is even better

Still the well runs dry

Yeah, the well is dry

Follow the money, when the message is fear

When everything changes, nothing is clear

When everything changes

The Fourth Turning is here

Sky’s green, I keep on eating

Gonna have Umami-flavored nuggets

On a sesame bun

Yeah, a sesame bun

Follow the money, but don’t disappear

When everything changes, one thing is clear

When everything changes

The Fourth Turning is here

Waggin’ The Dog

©2016 Lynn Davison

I can’t explain, it’s like a train collision

Nobody sees it ‘til the wreckage is clear

So take a trip, saw it in a clip from that trailer

The really smart ones have all disappeared

Here we are, clock keeps on tickin’

Living in a dream, wasting our time

Face in the mirror, virtual stranger

Lighting up my screen and I’m feelin’ just fine

La, da de da, da de da, da de da da

La, da de da

Can’t explain what sounds insane

Rules keep on changin’ but it’s the same old game

High and away, gonna find a better place

High and away it’s one hell of a ride

La, da de da, da de da, da de da da

La, da de da da, waggin’ the dog

La, da de da, da de da, da de da da

La, da de da da

High and away, gonna be a long way down

High and away, we’re all out on our own

Rules keep on changing, same old game

Just a bigger bag of tricks

To cover the lies, so we don’t see the signs

La, da de da…

Sanctuary

© 1999 Lynn Davison

I’ve been out in the jungle fighting for survival

I don’t want you around me now ‘cause I might bite you

I don’t mean to hurt you really, I don’t mean to

I guess I need some time alone

Time to heal this achin’ soul

I need to find my sanctuary

Searching for the silence I can hear the calling

Standing on the edge I’m looking down and falling

I don’t mean to go there really, I don’t mean to

I guess I need some time alone

Time to climb out of this hole

I need to find my sanctuary

I can’t live, and I can’t give

With this emptiness inside me now

Well I’ve been looking’ for an easy way out

Not a care in the world or a shadow of a doubt

I need to find my sanctuary

Help me find my sanctuary

Gonna find some peace of mind

In a world where everything’s changing

Help me find my sanctuary

 No Daddy

© 1989 Lynn Davison

Sat down his little girl, said it’s a crazy world

But don’t you worry ’cause you’re safe with me

Yeah, such a crime dear, better hide your heart here

They won’t hurt you just as long as I’m around

She said “No daddy, no daddy, got to let me go

No daddy, no daddy, I can’t stay

No daddy, no daddy, now it’s my turn

Thank you very much but I got to make a life for me, yeah, for me”

He said “they’ll cheat you, mistreat you

But don’t let them defeat you

Some get their pleasure out of draggin’ you down

Don’t be pullin’ any punches

Or they’ll eat you for their lunches

You’ll get a taste and you’ll come runnin’ back to me”

She said “No daddy, no daddy, got to let me go

No daddy, no daddy, I can’t stay

No daddy, no daddy, now it’s my turn

Thank you very much but I got to make a life for me

Yeah for me, ahh, life for me”

“No daddy, no daddy, no daddy, no daddy

No daddy, no daddy,” now he’s gone

“No daddy, no daddy, wupbyeh daddy

No daddy, no daddy, wupbyeh”

There Will Still Be You And I

© 1991 Lynn Davison

Time goes on, seasons change

Growing older in this restless age

The grace of youth slipping quietly away

The gray of winter colors every day

The mind is not so sharp, body not so able

Our winnings in this game of life

Just cards out on the table

But memories live on inside

Like a pirate holds his treasure

Thoughts of you no one can measure

Rest your head, wake up to the dawn

And let love carry us through this wicked storm, ahh

That’s when love means the most

That’s when nothin’ can deceive you

When the light of glory’s just a flicker in the night sky

There will still be you and I

There will still be you and I

In a flash the world has turned ahead now

Off to the bleachers to watch the show

The children we once helped to walk

Are now running through the quagmire

We’ll just take it nice and slow

Rest your head, wake up to the dawn

And let love carry us through this wicked storm, ahh

That’s when love means the most

That’s when nothin’ can deceive you

When the light of glory’s just a flicker in the night sky

There will still be you and I

There will still be you and I

When truth and desperation have got you runnin’ around in circles

Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh, ahhh

Inhuman Expression

© 2016 Lynn Davison

Don’t want to play this game

Where everyone’s a target

Something new to market now

I like my clouds with rain

To wash away the smokescreen

Everybody sees the things they want to see in virtual reality

They’re modeling inhuman expression

No wonder why people actin’ this way

Turn up the noise, deflect our attention

And take us down another dollar each day

Sometimes I want to cry

We are pleasantly sedated

Feeling so ill-fated now

And as the years go by

We’ll see what we’ve created

Everybody knows the words we cannot say

Common sense has surely lost its way

They’re modeling inhuman expression

No wonder why people actin’ this way

Turn on the charm, sell your intention

And take another slice of freedom away

They’re modeling inhuman expression

No wonder why people actin’ this way

Turn up the noise, deflect our attention

And take us down another dollar each day

They’re modeling inhuman expression

No wonder why people actin’ this way

Turn on the charm, sell your intention

And take another slice of freedom away

Sunlight

© 2016 Lynn Davison

I saw you there just standing in the shadows

Didn’t even think to ask your name

Turned my head to try and face the sunlight

Out there in the rain

Never really planned to ride the treadmill

Acting out your wanderlust with such pride

Funny how it changes

Hardening beneath the watchful eye

Have you seen too much out in your world

Where joy is forsaken

And life has grown stale

Where sunlight is cold, bittersweet cold

You’re in real deep

Twisted and bound

You slide undercover in some other town

And so it goes on

So it goes on

Lost inside a maze of innuendo

Feel the demons wrestling in your head

Funny how it changes

You’ve seen too much out in your world

Where love is forsaken

And pride is for sale

And so it goes on

So it goes on

You’re in real deep tryin’ to hold on

Feel the resistance driving you on

‘Cause sunlight is bold

Sunlight is bold

Laura

© 1986 Lynn Davison

Born in someone else’s home

Spending too much time alone

Stuck in someone else’s shoes

Sworn by someone else’s rules

They make you learn geometry

Teach you about morality

Then you go out in a world untrue

Well, a lot of good it did for you

Forgive them Laura

They know not what they do

They know not what they do

Forgive them Laura, ohhh

They’ll “ooh” and “aah” great men of art

With vivid minds and open hearts

Then they’ll say a dream is just a dream

Well, they never knew what you have seen

Forgive them Laura

They know not what they do

They know not what they do

Forgive them Laura, ohhh, ohhh

You don’t want to hate the world

Children learn from you

Try and find a back way out

Do what you can do

You’re thinkin’ that you’re all alone

But others hurt like you, ohhh

They’ll ask what’s with these kids today

All they want to do is runaway

We try and try, we can’t get through

Well, we never did the things they do

Forgive them Laura

They know not what they do

They’ve been kept down too

Forgive them Laura, ohhh, ohhh

Forgive them Laura

They know not what they do

They know not what they do

Forgive them Laura, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
